Phonics and Early Reading
Schools have always made children's reading development a key priority, they have always been '... determined that every pupil will learn to read...' (DfE, School Inspection Handbook, 2022), but with the DfE and Ofsted prescribing a systematic, synthetic approach to phonics, and making a focus on how well children are taught to read a main inspection activity, it is vitally important that every adult involved in children's reading development has a very secure understanding of the principles and practice of SSP.
