Parents / Carers Information and Training
Parents, carers and other adults who might read with children outside of school such as older siblings, grandparents and wider family members, childminders or after-school care practitioners can provide more effective support for the development of children's early decoding skills if they are able to use the approaches to decoding of the school's phonics programme.
I can deliver information / workshop sessions for parents, carers, wider family and other interested and involved adults such as after-school care practitioners. These can be during the school day or as evening meetings.
I can also work with the school's early reading and phonics lead to develop these sessions which they can then deliver themselves or in collaboration with me, or to develop resources and information to share in person or through the school's website. This provides a valuable professional development opportunity for a colleague who has little experience of this kind of activity.
I have delivered a 'new' parents / carers evening session for St Mary's College Prep School, Crosby for a number of years with very positive feedback.
